The Family Reentry Initiative is a state-funded initiative of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, in conjunction with, the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. This is CEEC’s newest initiative to strengthen inmate families and their minor children. Family strengthening models such as La Bodega, which means ‘the family’ is utilized to reunify, case manage and strengthen families broken by incarceration. Mr. William DeFelice is the project director for this ambitious program that is currently installed in four male facilities and two female prisons. The male prisons are Lake Erie, Allen, Trumbull, and Richland Correctional along with the Ohio Reformatory for Women and Trumbull Correctional Camp for Women.
This dynamic component is highly interactive which features sessions for the children; each parenting partner and the whole family with a family style dinner included inside the prison. Requirements for participation are three-to-six months pre to post release and three-to-six months following release from prison and the parenting partner or guardian of the minor child must agree to participate. This initiative is a demonstration project for the state of Ohio. If you know of someone who fits the criteria for participation, please feel free to inquire by calling 216/426-9012.
